Offit Kurman Grows Tysons Corner Office with the Addition of Three Attorneys

Offit Kurman is pleased to announce that Kyle Bartol, James Dougherty and Courtney Alvarez have joined the firm’s Northern Virginia office. Mr. Bartol and Mr. Dougherty join as Principals; Ms. Alvarez joins as counsel.

James Dougherty is a member of the Government Contracts group. He has extensive experience counseling and representing technology companies and government contractors in a myriad of transactional and litigation matters. Mr. Dougherty’s concentration in U.S. government contracts law covers domestic, international and public sector technology transactions, software and IP licensing, and corporate compliance. He has served as the general counsel and corporate secretary for several technology companies, where he led all legal, compliance and risk management functions. He has also served in senior roles with leading technology companies such as Cisco Systems and Intel Corporations.

Mr. Dougherty received his B.A. from the College of William & Mary and his J.D. from the New York University School of Law.

Kyle Bartol has joined the firm’s Family Law practice. Mr. Bartol handles a full range of family law-related matters, including high net worth property distribution cases. He is experienced in circuit court and juvenile family law court matters, representing clients in Virginia courts on matters involving property division, business valuations, spousal support, child support, support modification, divorce, custody, settlement agreements, premarital agreements, post-marital agreements, mediation and appeals.  At both the appellate and trial level, he participates in all facets of contested family law matters.

Mr. Bartol received his B.A. from James Madison University and his J.D. from George Mason University – Atonin Scalia Law School.

Courtney Alvarez has joined the Insurance Recovery group. As a commercial litigator, Ms. Alvarez has a varied practice with a focus on representing policyholders in complex insurance coverage disputes related to directors’ and officers’ liabilities, government investigations, professional errors and omissions liabilities, product liabilities and environmental liabilities. She has successfully implemented legal strategies to obtain favorable results for a range of clients, including defense contracting firms, financial services firms, automobile parts manufacturers, government-sponsored enterprises and regulated utilities, as well as individual directors and officers.

Ms. Alvarez received her B.A. from Villanova University and her J.D. from Howard University.
