Between 1999 and 2017, more than 700,000 people died from a drug overdose—with almost 400,000 of those deaths involving an opioid. In 2017 alone, there were more than 70,200 drug overdoses, with about 68% involving illicit fentanyl, heroin or a prescription opioid. On average, 130 Americans die every day from an opioid overdose.*

With the number of opioid deaths six times higher in 2017 than in 1999, the opioid epidemic is continuing its rampage across the country. What can be done to solve the epidemic? What steps have states taken that are showing meaningful progress? What needs to come next? To uncover the answers, Manatt Health and the American Medical Association (AMA) performed an in-depth analysis of how four hard-hit states—Pennsylvania, Colorado, Mississippi and North Carolina—are addressing the epidemic. In a new webinar, we share our findings with you, including the initiatives making an impact and a roadmap to an effective path forward. Click here to learn more and register free.

“What Do Recent Class Action Changes Mean for Healthcare?” April 9, 2019. 1:00 – 2:00 p.m. ET. Click here to learn more and register free. (CLE is pending for this program in NY, CA and IL.)

Healthcare organizations are prime targets for class action lawsuits. The healthcare industry tops the list for class action data breach lawsuits. Healthcare is among the top three industries facing class action lawsuits around the Telephone Consumer Protection Act (TCPA)—despite a TCPA exemption for health-related calls. And that’s just the tip of the iceberg. From mounting litigation around opioids to the growing number of suits claiming excessive hospital charges, healthcare organizations are increasingly the victims of class actions.

Now, for the first time in 15 years, Federal Rule of Civil Procedure 23, which governs class actions, has been amended. What do the changes mean for healthcare organizations? How are the new amendments likely to impact federal class action litigation? And what do you need to know about the new requirements? Learn the answers in a new Manatt webinar. Examine updated requirements for notifying class members, new amendments to discourage “professional” objectors, new core factors courts should evaluate in deciding whether to approve settlements and much more.
