New limits for currency inflows and outflows – Natural Persons (Residents and Non-Residents)

On March 3, Notice no. 6/22 was published, revoking Notice no. 1/16, of 12th April, and defining the limits for currency outflow, applicable to natural persons, residents and non-residents, who cross the country’s borders, as well as the situations requiring the filling out of a declaration form for currency inflow to the country.

Currency Inflow

i) The entry of the total amount equal or superior to the equivalent to USD 10.000,00 (ten thousand United States Dollars), by Resident Individuals and Foreign Exchange Residents, requires the completion of a form.

Currency Outflow

i) Residents may carry, on leaving the country, the total value equivalent to USD 10.000,00 (ten thousand United States Dollars).

ii) In the case of Residents under the age of 18who are not traveling accompanied, they may carry, on leaving the country, national or foreign currency, up to a total value equivalent to USD 1.000,00 (one thousand United States Dollars).

iii) Foreign Exchange Resident who carry, when leaving the Country, Foreign Currency in an amount equal to the Currency with which they entered the Country [of an amount equal to or greater than the equivalent to USD 10.000,00 (ten thousand United States Dollars)], must prove the entry of that amount by submitting a copy of the declaration of entry of Currency to Customs.
The decree comes into effect 30 days after the date of its publication, as of 3 April 3 of 2022.
