Leman Solicitors Charity Challenge raises over €20k for Barretstown to support their 25th anniversary!

Leman

On Saturday 7th September 2019, staff from Leman Solicitors climbed eight mountains in Wicklow to raise money for Barretstown Children’s Charity, who are celebrating 25 years in existence this year. Leman’s annual company challenge called Leman LeMountain, saw teams of Leman employees enthusiastically fundraise over €20k through donations to the firm.

John Hogan, Managing Partner at Leman Solicitors, said: “This year in our 9th annual Leman challenge we were delighted to raise money for Barretstown. It was wonderful to see our staff so engaged in both the fundraising and on the day itself, with a wonderful sense of achievement and collaboration for all involved. We are extremely grateful to our clients, suppliers and family and friends who helped us reach our €20k target and delighted to support the fantastic work Barretstown do for sick children from all over Ireland.”

Kevin Dempsey from Barretstown said: “On behalf of everyone at Barretstown we would like to say thank you to the amazing team at Leman Solicitors. Each year it costs €5.8 million to run our programmes at Barretstown – everything, including accommodation, food and medical assistance are provided at no cost to the family. We rely almost entirely on donations and the fundraising efforts of individuals, community groups and corporate supporters like Leman Solicitors, who go the extra mile to ensure that we can provide our programmes to children living with a serious illness and their families.”

About Barretstown

Barretstown was founded by Hollywood actor and philanthropist Paul Newman in 1994 and is modelled on his renowned Hole in the Wall Gang Camp in Connecticut, USA. It serves children affected by serious illnesses -primarily cancer and serious blood diseases – and their families. Since 1994 it has served over 50,000 campers. 2019 is a hugely important year for Barretstown as it marks its 25th Anniversary.

Barretstown’s mission is to rebuild the lives of children affected by serious illness and their families, through life-changing Therapeutic Recreation Programmes in a safe, fun and supported environment.

Childhood stops for seriously ill children. Through its free, specially-designed camps and programmes, Barretstown brings back the fun of childhood – its services help children to press play on childhood again.  To mark its 25th anniversary it launched its nationwide Press Play campaign the aim of which is to achieve its vision that by 2024, every child with a serious illness in Ireland will have the opportunity to avail of one of Barretstown’s therapeutic programmes.

Every year Barretstown needs to raise €5.8 million to run its programmes. The services provided to all of the children and families who come to Barretstown are entirely free of charge, so donations and fundraising efforts are vital for the charity to help more seriously ill children to experience the magic of Barretstown each year. Barretstown is supported by donations and the fundraising efforts of corporate supporters, individuals and community groups. Each year the charity recruits the help of over 2,000 volunteers to help run its programmes.
