Poland’s President Bronis?aw Komorowski has declared that, acting in accordance with international law, Poland will continue to consistently support Belarusian citizens in their efforts to build a civil society in Belarus, Dziennik Gazeta Prawna reports.
The president made the declaration during a meeting with local government officials from the Podlaskie voivodship at a Polish-Belarusian border crossing in Kuznica on Sunday.
President Komorowski said that he would “with the greatest kindness” review applications for asylum and Polish citizenship. He also said he was sorry that an agreement on small border traffic with Belarus, which is designed to make it easier for residents at the border zone to cross borders, had not been ratified by the Belarusian authorities.
This week, the Polish Sejm is due to adopt a resolution condemning President Alexander Lukashenko’s regime for repressing Belarusian civil society and rigging December’s presidential elections. The resolution is to be adopted as an expression of solidarity with those fighting for a democratic Belarus.
