Infrastructure projects and its role in economic development of Afghanistan

Development and modernization of infrastructure in Afghanistan started is the second largest economic sector in this country which made a considerable amount of internal and external investment opportunities in various sectors.

Among these, Afghan sources corridors program is one of the basic and extremely important to the government of Afghanistan that generally, specify national investment projects and priority assets and pave the way for a domestic and foreign investor to invest. The major focus of this program is to connect Afghanistan to the region and the world through the transport and transit, strengthening and creation of new and existing infrastructures, and mining the country’s rich natural resources. Focus on the infrastructure sectors causes the automatic development of other sectors and create opportunities to domestic and foreign to invest in various sectors in this country.

Since Afghanistan resources corridors project is one of the big and important projects for Afghan government which is always under special attention of various institutions and ministries of Public Works, commerce and Industry, Water and Energy, Mines and Petroleum, Finance, and other government agencies have the major role practically in the implementation and development in cooperation with the World Bank.

The landscape of Afghanistan Sources Corridor project is the prioritization and development of basic infrastructure and strategic that encourages and supports domestic and foreign private sectors to invest in various sectors.

Currently, the government holds over 14 infrastructure projects, some of which have been completed and work is going on the others. Among these are the beginning of China-Afghanistan Railways, TAPI gas project, 500 KW electric from Turkmenistan, opening of Lajaward way, Kaasa 1000 Project, reopening of cement factory in Jabal Saraj, transit way of Chabahar port, Activation of Salma dam in west of Afghanistan, development of Kajaki dam, making numerous domestic railways, making of Bakhsh Abad dam, development of cultivation, processing and export of saffron, and in the last, taking action to reopen the factories that were previously destroyed or closed and other development in this country.

On the other hand, the government has tried to keep country’s ports more active than before and also has solved the problems of it, as government officials say that commercial ports of Afghanistan are more active than the past and existent problems have solved.

Afghanistan now has commercial exchanges with Iran through Islam Qala and Zaranj ports, with Uzbekistan through Hairatan port, with Tajikistan through Sherkhan port, and with Turkmenistan through Aqina and Toorghondi ports. To add more, Creation of regional transport has led the country in the region to expand trade relations, for instance, Chabahar port, railway of Aqina and Lajaward has an important role in regional trade relations.

The above issues has increased employment opportunities and hopes for further economic prosperity in the country than before
