Herbert Smith won the “Dispute Resolution Firm of the Year” award at the Legal Business Awards 2011 on 10 February.
The award was for the firm’s work acting for BSkyB in its landmark case against EDS. The award was for the firm’s work acting for BSkyB in its landmark case against EDS. The Herbert Smith team was led by partner Ted Greeno. It was cited as one of the most significant cases before the UK courts in recent years. The Herbert Smith team obtained victory and £318m in settlement of damages, interest and costs for BSkyB.
The Legal Business award marks the third time over the last year that the firm’s disputes practice has won an award for its work on the case, following its success at The Lawyer Awards 2010 (Litigation Team of the Year) and Legal Week’s British Legal Awards 2010 (Litigation and Regulatory Team of the Year).
At the same awards, Herbert Smith’s Alliance partner Gleiss Lutz won “International Law Firm of the Year” and was commended as being one of the stand-out performers in Germany in 2010. This follows Gleiss Lutz being named “Law Firm of the Year” for both restructuring and antitrust/competition at the JUVE Awards last year.
