DEA to Restrict Imports and Exports of Synthetic Cathinone

The Drug Enforcement Administration has announced its intent to issue an order temporarily including the synthetic cathinone, 1-(1,3-benzodioxol-5-yl)-2-(ethylamino)-pentan-1-one (N-ethylpentylone, ephylone) and its optical, positional, and geometric isomers, salts, and salts of isomers into schedule I of the Controlled Substances Act.

The temporary scheduling order will impose the regulatory controls under the CSA on the importation, exportation, manufacture, distribution, reverse distribution, possession, research and conduct of instructional activities, and chemical analysis of this substance as well as the administrative, civil, and criminal penalties that apply to persons who fail to comply with such requirements or otherwise violate the CSA with respect to this substance. This order is effective Aug. 31 through Aug. 31, 2020.
