Conn Maciel Carey Adds Two Exceptional OSHA and Employment Law Associates in California and DC

Conn Maciel Carey LLP is pleased to announce the addition of two talented new attorneys — Samuel S. Rose (Los Angeles), and Darius Rohani-Shukla (Washington, DC).

Associate Sam Rose supports both the firm’s OSHA • Workplace Safety Practice and the Labor and Employment Practice. He represents employers in a broad range of employment issues and Cal/OSHA compliance and enforcement matters, and he revises employee handbooks and workplace policies and procedures.

“I’m excited to grow as attorney and develop true expertise in employment and OSHA law,” Mr. Rose says. “The partners are all so knowledgeable and willing to mentor and train associates.”

Sam’s legal career began at the Kings County District Attorney’s Office (Brooklyn, NY), where he prosecuted a wide range of criminal cases.

Co-founder and Chair of the firm’s OSHA Practice Eric Conn says, “Sam spent time after law school in the District Attorney’s office in Brooklyn, where he quickly gained experience in the courtroom through an active litigation docket. He also has a unique perspective having been on the prosecutor’s side of the ledger.”

“I learned from the courtroom,” Mr. Rose says, “to think on my feet and make creative, thoughtful arguments on the spot.”

Since moving back to California, Sam has represented employers in various labor and employment matters and also represented public service employees/unions through all stages of the disciplinary process.

Kara Maciel, the firm’s other Co-founder and Chair of the firm’s Labor and Employment Practice Group, says,

“Sam brings strong negotiation skills to the firm. He will be an integral part of the growth of our California practice, which has been a high priority of the firm since our founding.”

Mr. Rose is very excited about serving clients through the Cal/OSHA enforcement process and the challenges of labor and employment issues.

Associate Darius Rohani-Shukla has joined the firm’s Labor and Employment and OSHA practices in Washington, DC.  Mr. Rohani-Shukla adds solid experience in litigation as well as labor and employment law, including restrictive covenants, wage and hour disputes, claims of discrimination and harassment, compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), and the Family Medical Leave Act (FMLA).

“We are excited to have Darius advising companies on proactive measures to comply with the myriad of regulatory requirements under federal and state law,” Ms. Maciel says. “He is eager to advise clients on privacy rights for employers at the state and local levels.”

“I like that CMC is a growing firm focused on labor and employment.” he says, “I’m looking forward to getting involved in fascinating and sophisticated work.”

Mr. Conn adds, “I was impressed with Darius’ knowledge of employment law and his critical thinking. He is also a terrific writer, which is hard to find in young lawyers.”

CMC’s newest Associates have much to contribute to the rapidly growing firm.

Mr. Conn observes, “Our client portfolio of elite organizations continues to grow, so we must add excellent attorneys to our already deep bench of OSHA and employment law attorneys. With Sam and Darius, we have two very sharp, thoughtful, hard-working associates , who will benefit our clients nationwide.”
