AKD supports the Aids Fund

Under Vincent Bettonville’s guidance, AKD provided legal support to an extensive HIV/AIDS programme. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has set aside 35 million Euros to provide vulnerable groups in 16 countries with access to education, condoms, treatment with HIV inhibitors and care.

The unique Dutch approach
Never before has a country set up such a large HIV/AIDS programme centred on vulnerable groups. It could mean a drastic drop in the number of HIV infections in these 16 countries. The programme is being carried out by seven Dutch organisations directed by the Aids Fund, and is to start in September. Another 11.7 million from other sources will be added to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs' contribution to make this programme possible.
The Ministry selected this 4.5-year programme as the best [from among the contributions]; the Dutch government's decision to fund the project is of major importance. The Dutch approach is internationally recognized as being very successful.
AKD and the Aids Fund
AKD is a staunch supporter of sustainable business. AKD's specific expertise can be extremely valuable for social purposes and consequently, as part of our social responsibility policy, AKD entered into a collaboration agreement with the Aids Fund on January 1 2010. AKD sees this as an opportunity to indirectly make a contribution to health care by offering such aid as free legal services.
