Valentin Trofin holds a Bachelor Law Degree (1998) and a Master Degree in International Commercial Arbitration (2014), both from Law School of University of Bucharest. He also holds a Diploma in International Commercial Arbitration from Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (2014). Valentin Trofin is a PhD candidate at Doctoral Law School of Titu Maiorescu University.

Valentin Trofin was admitted to the Bucharest Bas Association (1999), The National Association of Authorized Romanian Valuers (2003) and to Romanian National Union of the Insolvency Practitioners (2010). Also, he is member of International Bar Association,  Society of Construction Law (UK), Romanian Society of Construction Law and founding member and Treasurer of Bucharest Arbitration Network.

Valentin Trofin is experienced in corporate transactions and project financing with a focus on construction, real estate development and both commercial & investment arbitration. His continuing legal education includes various participations at trainings, seminars and conferences related both, with FIDIC contracts, including the YPMTP 2012 and with international commercial arbitration.

Mr. Trofin regularly represents companies, both domestic and international, in cross-border transactions, especially in Turkey, Russian Federation, North Africa and Republic of Moldova.

Key appointments:

  • He acted as a co-counsel in an acquisition of shares in major telecommunication company having a value in excess of USD 20 million;
  • He acted as co-counsel in an sale of a real estate company with a value exceeding Euro 40 million
  • He acted as leading counsel in a sale of business in retail industry with a value exceeding Euro 9 million;
  • He acted as leading counsel for a developer in planning, building and selling a shopping center in Bucharest where the final sale transaction exceeded USD 25 million;
  • He acted as leading counsel for different contractors and subcontractors performing building works in almost all office and shopping centers in Bucharest;
  • He acted as co-counsel in an international dispute in pre-arbitration phase relating to a claim raised under a construction contract performed in Libia;
  • He acted as leading counsel for a developer in planning, project financing, building and selling a landmark residential complex in Bucharest where the final sale transactions exceeded Euro 70 million
  • He acted as leading counsel for a client in relation with a claim in connection with a construction contract where the dispute shall be determined under ICC Rules; the claim was settled just before notice for arbitration to be dispatched;
  • Currently is acting as co-counsel in an investment arbitration under the ICSID Rules

Firm Description

Valentin Trofin is founder of the company. He was admitted in Bucharest Bar Association on May 1st, 1999 and he started his legal career in one of the biggest law practices of that time in Bucharest. There he was especially involved in corporate matters, including capital markets regulatory issues, merging and acquisition and privatization and post privatization issues.

In 2001 Valentin Trofin decided to start his own practice and founded his Law Office were another 2 exceptionally young lawyers were handling the Office’s practice. In the following year Iulia Trofin joins the practice as a fulltime lawyer.

In 2003 Valentin Trofin and Iulia Trofin decided to set up a professional law firm having both of them as founders. In March 2003 Trofin si AsociaĊ£ii SCA was set up having two partners and 3 associate lawyers. The main area of expertise at that time was corporate issues, mergers and acquisition, construction agreements & disputes, real estate and litigation.

Due to the fact that in construction industry many disputes occurs, the litigation and arbitration practice increased every year in 2006 the firm decided to merge its practice, with Iordache si Asociatii which at that time was owned and managed by and exceptionally litigator professional, Eugen Iordache. Mr. Eugen Iordache was the leader of litigation practice team until 2013 when he decided to start a boutique law firm specialized in criminal law and litigation, in general.

In 2007 Iulia Trofin was admitted to National Union of Notary Public from Romania and she had to withdraw from her position of partner of the Firm, starting a new career as Notary Public.

In august 2011 the numbers of partners increased by promoting Roxana Cazacu as partner after 3 years working within the Firm.

In summer of 2016 Mr. Alexander S. Popa join our team. Specialist in copyright and IP issue, Data protection, pharma and nanotechnology patents and IT&C, Mr. Alexander Popa is a well known lawyer in this field of activity.
