Ashfords is a national provider of legal, regulatory and professional services with 76 partners, more than 500 staff, and a turnover of £36m. The firm had its origins in the mid-1700s founded by the Sparkes family who were Quakers carrying on business as lawyers, bankers and property developers. They ran the Exeter General Bank (founded 1792) which issued £1 bank notes depicting William Penn, another Quaker, signing a treaty with Native Americans.
