Founded in September 2011, KN Legal (erstwhile Nayar Agrawal Law Chambers) is a boutique law firm with focus on commercial litigation and arbitration. The Firm provides a wide range of legal services to its clients, both at Indian and International level. It has assisted its clients in large complex disputes and transactions.

The Firm represents and advises on commercial litigation, domestic and international commercial arbitration.

The Firm’s forte is dispute resolution as it is involved in several litigations pertaining to complex construction contracts, oil and gas disputes, real estate, infrastructure contracts, marine engineering etc. The Firm also deals in disputes pertaining to mining, information technology, debt recovery, insolvency, real estate, competition law, infrastructure and engineering, intellectual property disputes and all other types of litigation including criminal proceedings. Additionally, the Firm has a niche arbitration practice ranging from contractual disputes, construction disputes (laying of pipelines, construction of a refinery, construction of buildings/ townships etc.) to maritime disputes. The Firm’s expertise also lies in handling complex arbitral matters and providing legal advisory and expertise to its clients across diverse practice areas and industry verticals. Since its inception, the Firm has grown substantially, especially in the last 5 years and as of today houses 15 associates in addition to paralegals and other support staff. The Firm also has tie-ups and strong relationships with other law firms across the country so as to provide its clients a comprehensive pan-India support for all their disputes regardless of the jurisdiction. The Firm has a team of dedicated professionals which possesses thorough knowledge of the Indian legal framework and deft drafting and negotiation skills which enables it to assist clients on various complex legal issues. At the top rung of the Firm is the Founder and Managing Partner - Kartik Nayar, who has been practicing law since the year 2007 and has gained vast experience in various branches of law and specializes in commercial dispute resolution.

He obtained his law degree from New Delhi, India and holds a masters degree from London School of Economics specializing in Dispute Resolution.

He has previously worked with Beachcroft LLP (a UK law firm) in the Dispute Resolution Team. He has also worked at Amarchand & Mangaldas & Suresh A. Shroff & Co. for two years in the commercial litigation and arbitration team. He then founded KN Legal in 2011 and is the Managing Partner of his Firm.

He has handled several complex commercial litigations in the last decade wherein he has not only provided strategic advice to the client, but also represented clients before various fora such as High Courts across the country, the Supreme Court of India, various Tribunals and District Courts. Apart from the importance given to the drafting involved, being qualified, he also argues most of his matters himself. He is also very experienced in briefing senior advocates for representation before the Indian Courts. He has partnered with various law firms, advocates throughout the Country so as to provide Pan-India support to his Clients. Due to the wide variety of arbitral disputes being handled by the Firm, the Firm also handles several complex commercial matters involving oil and gas, marine law, infrastructure, real estate etc.

He personally also handles all the arbitration disputes being handled by the Firm and has appeared in several international arbitrations with seats in London, Singapore, Hong Kong etc. As such, he is very well versed with the ICC Rules, LCIA rules, SIAC rules etc. The Firm then provides services right from the invocation of the arbitral proceedings (on many occasions even prior thereto) till the stage of the Award and thereafter till the time the challenge to an Award (if any) is decided, under his active participation and guidance. Strong emphasis and importance is given to the drafting involved in arbitration proceedings, be it a Statement of Claim or filing of evidence in the matter. On most occasions the arbitration matters are also argued by the Firm led by the Managing Partner so as to give the clients a specialised yet cost effective solution for their disputes. His experience in domestic as well as international arbitrations, has also led him to be a member of the Steering Committee of Young MCIA (Mumbai Centre for International Arbitration) which is a platform to give young professionals access to not only a network of international law firms, but also to impart knowledge and skills required for a career in international arbitration.
