Jatin is a qualified lawyer in India and has over 22 years of wide-ranging experience in the filed of indirect taxes including GST, Customs, Excise, Service Tax and VAT laws.
Jatin started his career as an independent counsel and practiced in the Delhi High Court and various tribunals and thereafter worked with Big 4 consulting firms like PwC and Deloitte for over 16 years. He has been advising multinational and domestic companies across sectors viz., healthcare and pharmaceuticals, hospitality, manufacturing, oil & gas, power, auto OEMs and component manufacturers, telecom, IT & ITeS, consumer, retail and wholesale, real estate, infrastructure, and EPC etc.
Jatin has extensively worked on a variety of matters such as India entry and set up advisory, considering incentives and benefits available under central government schemes and state industrial policies; advisory related to tax implications on business transactions; structuring of cross border and intra-company transactions; Customs advisory in relation to classification and valuation of goods and exemptions available for import of goods; optimisation of working capital; structuring global supply chains considering local and global trade aspects.
He has advised and handheld various companies during transition of their business to the GST regime in India. He has also worked with industry associations and advised on representations to the Government and GST Council on matters involving industry specific ramifications. Jatin has handled multiple Special Valuation Branch (SVB) investigations, Directorate of Revenue intelligence (DRI) and Director General of GST Intelligence (DGGI) investigations, Anti Profiteering investigations besides providing litigation support before authorities and courts.
Jatin has been an avid speaker at various seminars, conferences and webinars organised by industry bodies like CII, Assocham, EU Chambers of Commerce etc., on a variety of topics. He was also a regular faculty for Customs and Trade laws with Institute of Chartered Accountants and have delivered lectures at numerous courses organised by the ICAI.

- Advised the Indian subsidiary of a large energy drinks manufacturer, in relation to the GST implications on their agreement with channel partner
- Represented a prominent PTFE manufacturer in India in relation to the Anti-Dumping appeal matter before the CESTAT.
- Advised a large PSU in India engaged in import and sale of Natural Gas, in relation to customs classification and valuation related queries raised by the authorities
- Assisted a global payments solutions company in determining classification, valuation and applicable rate of customs duty and represented before the SVB to explain the valuation basis and methodology. Assisted the company in structuring the import supply chain from overseas partners.
- Assisted a large USA based mobile phones accessories brand in determining the appropriate classification, valuation and rate of customs duty and represented before the SVB to explain the valuation basis and methodology.
- Advised a large downstream Oil & Gas sector service provider based out of Abu Dhabi, engaged in construction of platforms for oil drilling for Indian companies in tendering process by identifying tax exemptions and costs, compliance and related risks involved and successfully win various bids. Assisted in implementing the advice given during the project execution stage.
- Advised India’s largest car manufacturing company in relation to various incentives available under Indian Foreign Trade Policy to structure their export supply chain and global delivery model for supplies to Oceanic, African and SE Asian countries.
- Advised a large USA based electronics brand on registering its trade marks with Customs, customs processes, determining classification, valuation and applicable rate of customs duty on multiple products and domestic VAT and service tax implications on business transactions.
- Advised a prominent Oil & Gas sector service provider in identifying customs duty implications and exemptions available under the law to import drilling rigs in India for multiple projects and claim of drawback on re-export of the same.
- Advised various healthcare equipment importers and traders in determining classification, valuation and applicable rates of customs duty on their products and represented them before the SVB authorities for acceptance on related price on imports.
- Advised a steel manufacturing plant in Gujarat in representing their matter before the SVB authorities to accept the related party import price and also advised on the process to be adopted under the new CAROTAR provisions for imports under FTA.
- Advised a large natural gas supplier in Gujarat on VAT/CST implication on their business transactions.
- Assisted large pharmaceutical manufacturing companies in Mumbai and Ahmedabad structure their business post GST implementation in India and helped optimise the valuation of interstate supplies and unlocking of the blocked input tax credits.
- Advised a large, diversified chemicals manufacturer on GST implications on their business divisions and DRI investigation concerning their exempted procurements and export of finished goods.

- Assisted Indian subsidiary of a large Japanese consumer durable company and subsidiary of a large Japanese printing solutions company in managing VAT compliance in various states across India.
- Advised a US based energy drink manufacturer on indirect tax implications on agreements with their contract manufacturers and logistic service providers in India and help them structure indirect tax efficient supply chain.
- Assisted world’s largest retailer set up operations in India and prepare standard operating procedures for procurement and sale of merchandise, determine VAT rates on the products across 8 states and structuring their intercompany agreements.
- Advised various BPOs and ITeS players on service tax matters and successfully claim refunds from the Government.
- Represented clients across sectors before department authorities, tribunals and High Court. Briefed and assisted senior counsels on matters before Supreme Court of India.
