Show more +B+F senior partner Gabriel Bustamante handles administrative, business and regulatory matters.
As head of Bustamante + Freyre, his areas of expertise include: electricity; oil and gas; industry; infrastructure projects; tourism developments; and equator principles. Over the past 15 years he has taken an active hand in significant development projects in Mexico, valued together at more than $65 billion. He has been the leading advocate in renewable energy projects of more than 9,000MW; gas transportation projects of over 5,000km; oil and gas exploration and production activities; liquefaction, storage and transloading facilities; numerous combined-cycle power plants; cogenerations; transmission lines; and distribution networks. He is a top practitioner on environmental and social impact assessment, with more than 600 approvals.
Mr Bustamante also has experience in working with national and international NGOs; and federal, state and local governments. He has participated in drafting model rules on environmental issues for indigenous Mexican communities, whose legal regimes are based largely on custom; and he has handled several indigenous consultations and public hearings across the country.
Mr Bustamante received his law degree from the Ibero-American University (UIA), where he graduated with honours. He also has a master’s degree in environmental law and public policy, with special mention, from the Center for Environmental Research and Learning (now part of the Universidad del Medio Ambiente). He complemented his legal education with studies in Italy, the USA and France.
